Located in the Garhwal Region in Uttarakhand, Panch Kedar signifies five holy Hindu Temples of Shaivite sect devoted to Lord Shiva. The entire region is filled with a mythological history of the Mahabharat, in which Lord Shiva had denied a meeting with Pandavas, citing the reasons of Gau Hatya(cow killing) and Brahmahatya committed by them. The aftermath that transpired, the torn body parts of Lord Shiva in the form of a Bull found at different locations in the Himalayas.
The four legs of the Bull represented the Pashupatinath In Nepal, the torso at Madhyamaheswar, the arms at Tungnath, the matted hair at kapileswar and Kedarnath represented the hump of the bull. This owes the origin of Panch Kedar. The picturesque view of Alkananda and enchanting Mandakini Valley also contributes to the pulchritude of Panch Kedar. Trekking through it not only covers the five temples but also gives you immense opportunities to explore the lush green forest and snow covered mountains.
