Believe it or not, Rishikesh has something for everyone, from month-long yoga vacation to adventure sports to an extra dose of religion and spirituality. And this makes this place the most popular holiday destination in India. It’s robust, pristine nature, and the fact that it is probably the most easily accessible place in the Himalayas, especially if you are traveling from Delhi. It takes only 6 hours to reach Rishikesh from Delhi, which makes this place the most visited tourist destination. People usually go for refreshing gateways, as it doesn’t need much time to reach and it’s budget-friendly too.

As this place attracts tourists from all over the world and usually flocked around with devotees and tourists, it becomes a little noisy. If you want to calm or rejuvenating vacation then here are a few things which you should consider when you plan your vacation in Rishikesh.

How to travel

If you are traveling from Delhi, you are a lucky one, who can run to Rishikesh for a quick trip. Since the distance between the two destinations is less than 250km, and traveling in a bus or a train takes no more than 7 hours, the very idea of taking flight from Delhi makes no sense. If, however, you are coming from another place in India, and are taking a flight, the nearest airport to Rishikesh is in Deharadun which is located around 50kms away. Flights to Deharadun can be expensive as it’s a small domestic airport, so, it’s better to fly to Delhi and then travel either by bus or train.

For comfort and calm stay

The town is pretty much nestled across its two pedestrian bridges that are Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, which connect eastern and the western side of the city. If you are heading for a calm and peaceful vacation, then you should look for a place that is a little far from Ganga and other temples. However, there are no such peaceful places, but you can try finding a stay near Laxman Jhula. Ram Jhula on the other hand, is more popular and thus, crowded, it is also situated in the close promises of some of the most prominent Hindu temples and Ashrams.

Things to do

With overgrowing Popularity, it is getting crowded day by day but still holds its magic. If you are planing for Rishikesh then you don’t have to worry about what to do there, as there so many things to do that, you may try one thing every day till your vacation but couldn’t complete the list. After most sought Yoga, there is no shortage of things to see and activities to try such as The waterfalls of Phool Chatti and grand Chatti, river rafting from the town of Shivpuri, Bungee jumping moreover, you can pour your attention on the spirituality and enjoy the evening Aarti of Ganga at Parmarth Niketan or listen to live music in Beatles Ashram and many more.

Finding Accommodations

Finding accommodation here is not that difficult. From budget, backpackers charging reasonably to luxurious hotels, you can find it all here. You can also opt to stay in Ashrams, which charge nominal. But the atmosphere in the Ashram is pure tranquility, filled with an overdose of spirituality in its air. Ashrams are one of the few old and most sacred religious establishments in Rishikesh. You will also find foreigners who are embracing the Hindu religion. Ram Jhula has more Indian tourists than in Laxman Jhula thus, this way you can decide where you want to stay according to your requirement and pocket.
