Roopkund Trek
Being known by the name of Mystery lake or Skeleton Lake, Roopkund trekking experience the hinterland between fear and excitement. The trek commences from Debal and through the eastern part of Chamoli district of Garhwal, goes uphill to the Roopkund lake which is at an altitude of 5029 meters. The lake is 200 meters in circumference and just 2metres deep. The name “Skeleton Lake” is attributed to the sighting of human and equine skeletons almost 500 years ago, which scientist believe that a probable cloudburst or avalanche could have caused this. However, the magnificent water body and snowclad peaks make this place a visit to die for.
Valley of flowers Trek
With an area of 87.5 sq km, Valley of Flowers blossoms with wildflowers, which have been attracting many species of Birds, Insects, and rare Himalayan Butterflies. This valley is an accidental discovery by a British Mountaineer Frank Smith, who lost his way in this floral meadow back in 1931. Being declared as UNESCO World Heritage site, this place is open for trekking during the daytime only. Apart from littering prohibition, the picturesque view and the Pushpawati river passing through the trekking track make this place unique for trekking.
Chandrashila Trek
Nestled at an altitude of 4090, this place provides the panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba Peak, Kedar Peaks. Being surrounded by forests, Deoria Tal is the highlight of this place. Except for the month of December and January, trekkers can make a trekking expedition to Chandrashila. Tunganath Temple, which is the highest Himalayan Temple is also situated here.
Milan Glacier Trek
Originated from the eastern slope of Trishuli, Milam Glacier is situated on the south facing slope of the main Himalayan range. This Glacier is the source of the Goriganga River and further down the Goriganga valley, Munisyari, is the base for the trek to the glacier. There was a trekking hiatus in the year 1962 due to the INDO-SINO War, leaving behind the wreckages. However, in the year 1994, the entry to the city was allowed for the trekkers. And the best time for trekking in this place is between March and May.
Gangotri Gomukh Trek
Being one of the holiest places for Hindu pilgrims, Gomukh owes the origin of the river Ganges which is at the snout of Gangotri Glacier. Situated at the height of 3048 meters Gangotri acts as a base camp for the trek. And a visit to Gangotri temple is the key attraction of this place also. The best time for trekking is from May to October.
Tapovan Trek
Literally translates as “Forest of Austerity or Spiritual Practice”, Tapovan is situated at the foot of Shivling Peak, which is a seasonal home many Sadhus living in huts and caves who come to pay tribute to Lord Shiva and river Ganga. This place is full of meadows, flowering plants, and streams, which make it an ideal ground for trekking. Take a trip to Tapovan to witness the beautiful combination of nature and spirituality.
